Got letter from case manager today. Giving me 4 dr's to choose from for my IMA. Anyone have any suggestions or who nots to go to ???????

Dr Porteous
Dr Kahan
Mr Theis
Dr Chin

Have had dealing with Chin before. Physically examined me for 2 minutes then said my problem was Raynauds syndrome which is commonly caused by diabetes. He was so wrong with his diagnosis actually his had to be the worst diagnosis of all the specialists i ever been to seen.

Anyway any input on who is the better would be appreciated.

huggy1,
Raynauds Phenomenon may be caused by diabetes but I have it, and I have not got diabetes! I believe mine is from all the chemicals which have been put into me since my back problems began - that is contrast dyes, various other injections etc. etc. - one of the reasons why being in Australia (heat) helps with that in my fingers and toes, as well as my back pain.

He tried to push it onto diabetes. Anyway after many blood test dna tests etc it was determined i got peripheral nueropathy in both hands and feet induced by extremities of cold and hot from working in the freezing works. Chins diagnosis was put to shame.

You can choose any Dr who is on ACCs approved list to do that assessment. If you wish to travel you may not get travel allowance, but you may get a honest oponion.
What area are you in,

You can go to ACC web site and check out all the DRs on their list in your area.

Hi there,
Kahan has questionable reports. A highly paid ACC toady.
Keep well clear of Porteous.
Ask for the full list, there are well over 4 in any area!!!

Involve your GP in the decision, then you have a good base for review should ACC so no to your choice.

Welcome to the Healthwise Contracts Page
This page contains details about the contracts ACC Healthwise has agreed with treatment and rehabilitation providers. It is intended to be a tool for rehabilitation managers and primary referrers, to assist claimants in making decisions about the most appropriate provider for them.

Easyrider, (and others),
Thankyou so much for putting up the Health providers of ACC. That is most helpful! Is this an up-to-date information of Providers?

Can anyone tell me for a Pain Management Assessment who is the best person to see in Auckland. I chose Dr Hancock but he wasn't allowed as obviously ACC knows that he is too honest for them! As you are all aware I have a spinal injury (Medical Misadventure) but have to see a Psychiatrist and/or Psychologist for the Pain Assessment. I have already told ACC in the past, I haven't had a brain injury, mind you, what they put long-term claimants through could be termed as one, but I have a structural injury!

My Case Manager is stalling on giving me names of providers for same. I need to know now so that I can go ahead and make the bookings for the flights back to NZ next month. She says the delay is because she is needing to send my information out to various providers BEFORE gaining an appointment in an effort to make sure that she gets the correct person to assess me! I say, she is sending out this information in her effort to shop around for an opinion - to get a provider who is prepared to view illegal documents/videos! As I have said before, it includes the videos and Otto Reports which effec tively say I am defrauding ACC and which were effectively thrown out at the Review hearing which I won! .....talk about her breaching Rule 8 of the Health Information Privacy Act 1994!!!!

And if you find someone you wish to see who is approved, ring their office and ask what their waiting time is for a appointment. Then if ACC try and bullshit you, and they will, call their bluff.

Easyrider i had Fitzpatrick do my independance allowance for ACC. He gave me a high rating. ACC even queried his decision so obviously they werent happy with it. I see he is on the list for IMA so does that mean i can request from my case manager that they use him for the report ??????

Yes you can. Another i would recomend for IMA is Dr Chris Walls.

When you go to each assessment make sure you have with you all the critical information ACC probally forgot to send the assessors.

The best way to make ACC send you to the right specialists is to pick them all with the help your your current GP. Then write a update of your rehab plan, to see all the ACC approved Drs of your choice. And get your GP to sign it as well. If they dispute your choices it is a easy review.

Do you have a current rehab plan.

I saw Theis. He has been rubbished previously in court decisions and I personally did not like his attitude or manner.

Easyrider and others,
But Butler is not a Psychistrist or a Psychologist - I don't think. I believe he is just a Pain Specialist - period.

Perhaps I should ask something else, who with a spinal injury (structural and a cock-up at that) has been made to see a Psychiatrist and or Psychologist?

If you have had a Pain Management Assessment who in the Auckland area have you seen and what are the doctor's qualifications?

I need this info. urgently please.

This is absolutley crazy sending you for a psych report. Just goes to show, once again they are demeaning your condition.
I was forced to see one years ago and saw Dr Phil Brinded in Christchurch. He is a sane one and gave a great report. Told ACC where to go actually!!!

Think he is now the Director of Hillmorton hosp, but do you want me to find out if he does private assessments? Took ages to send his report tho!

I saw Brendon O'Neill from Helensburgh medical centre last year for my IMA. Report was fair and accurate.

I was sent to Mercy pain service which is in Dunedin by ACC late last year. (Some 15 years after original injury I might add.) It consisted of three people. Rick Acland - Pain Specialist ( head of Burwood spinal unit), Jeni Blezard - clinical psychologist and Tracey Hogarty - physiotherapist.

First (and hopefully last time) of seeing a psychologist for my back injury. Report was fair and accurate. "There is no indication for psychological intervention with this client."
