Collins calls for judicial inquiry

Collins calls for judicial inquiry

National’s Welfare spokeswoman, Judith Collins, has today called for a judicial inquiry into reports that the department of Child, Youth and Family and its predecessor turned a blind eye to multiple incidents of sexual abuse of a young boy.

The boy is alleged to have been abused repeatedly as a toddler and again as a nine year old. Now, aged 16, he has become an abuser himself, assaulting up to 20 children and being removed from several schools as a result.

He also has violent and suicidal tendencies.

Ms Collins says the actions of the department have bolstered the cycle of abuse.

“Sexual predators are not born, they are created as a result of suffering abuse themselves and seeing that abuse go unpunished.

“CYF has a lot to answer for. The department let this family down and others are now suffering as a consequence.

“Ruth Dyson should do the right thing and order a full inquiry into her department’s handling of this case.

“With the department maintaining it did everything ‘by the book’ it’s essential that this is an independent judicial inquiry, not an internal snow-job which fails to ask the tough questions or hold anyone to account,” says Ms Collins.

Judith Collins as an MP has every right to refer her concerns to a Committee of Parliament for inquiry. If she is genuine she should do so instead of bleating about the Minister.

It is a House of Representatives and what CYF has done to these people in the public name is no different to what ACC is doing to claimant's in the public's name.

Both organisations operate under the public law and in the public's name.
