Hello.
I have been thinking about making a claim for a lump sum payment.
April 2006 I sustained a permanent spinal cord injury. I have had my butt in a wheelchair for coming up 15 years.
As I was between jobs when I had my accident I did not qualify for ACC weekly compensation and had no option than become a Winz beneficiary.
I am now on National Super.
My question....
is it true that any lump sum compensation payout from ACC would be used to offset what Winz had paid me for nearly 13 years?
Please can some one guide me in this matter.
I can't be bothered going through the Lump sum process if I am left with nothing for compensation.
Thanks in Advance

No the lump sum is an inalienable right as an offset for your loss of quality-of-life that may not be used by social welfare to offset your other means of support.
Just a question on your original employment situation, by any chance had you been working over the previous 12 months prior to your injury? What is the nature of the gap between jobs?
