Hi all,

I’m in the throes of an ACC appeal and review for concussion and whiplash cover declined post motor vehicle accident last year and have been denied treatment for the past seven months, resulting in a subsequent concussion. ACC sent me to Barry Snow in Auckland, who deemed my symptoms are due to undiagnosed migraines all my life (concussion #12 now) which we all know is not the case. (Do NOT see this man if ACC refers you to him!)

I’m hoping to ascertain which specialists to steer clear of and if anybody has found any particularly good ones as I need to seek sound second opinions from a neurologist and an orthopaedic specialist in the Whangarei or Auckland District. I can recommend Whangarei ortho specialists Andrew Herbert and Johnny Manson be avoided from my experience.

Grant Thompson (Ortho) has been suggested and Peter Bergen (Neuro) but I’m finding the three neurologists I have contacted are declining to see me, I suspect because two of them work at Auckland Medical Specialists also and do not want to contradict a colleague. So I’m finding myself stuck seeking appropriate second opinions as I do not trust anyone ACC insists I see, from past experience.

Any suggestions, experiences, recommendations and names to avoid etc much appreciated.

Thanks!

I am new to this forum but not new to my case. I had a fall at work and caused major shoulders trauma. My biggest battle with ACC has be them rejecting
Post-Traumatic Frozen shoulders (PTFS) both shoulders as an injury. The next biggest is them holding back evidence and ambushing you with it (Document discovery).

My recent experience is that Mr Peter Mutch (Ortho surgeon)is good, and Messers Snow, Ruttenburg and Yoon should be avoided. There are few out there who can be trusted.

It is very important to have carefully written and detailed formal statement of position setting out in your words what your injuries are or Drs and specialists will forget things when
doing their reports and tell ACC what ACC want to hear, and make a mess of their report. This applies even to your own GP. Issue it to ACC too as soon as written and check they include it in
their referral document lists for each and every ACC7395 referral assessments. Issue it in hard copy to the assessor in person. Else everything just turns into a game of Chinese whispers and they claim ignorance.

My recent experience with ACC is that when they complete the ACC7395 for the specialist, they tell you it is for a "specialist assessment"
(medical Single Discipline assessment) but ACC do a bait and switch behind your back and it is switched with a "Medical case review".
When you turn up for the appointment you wonder why they are doing a full medical case review?

Does anyone have experience with PTFS claims with ACC. What should I know? What was the outcome?
