Christchurch hit by severe earthquake

As reported in Stuff.co.nz

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR:
* 5.7 earthquake struck Christchurch around 1:13pm
* Intensity listed as "severe"
* Buildings evacuated
* Felt widely around the South Island, as well as Wellington
* No reports of serious injuries or damage so far
* No tsunami threat to NZ

My thoughts are with everybody down the road in Christchurch.

'Strong' 4.3 magnitude earthquake rocks Christchurch

http://www.stuff.co....ks-christchurch

Quote: "Another strong aftershock has rocked Christchurch."

At approximately 7-15pm last night - Thursday evening.

How the heck can they differentiate between an earthquake and an aftershock?

My way of thinking is that when the earth moves it's an earthquake with minor shaking following on from that!

When the earth moves 3 or 4 days later, that's another earthquake, in my opinion anyway.

Anyone else have an opinion?

Probably okay for those who live on RVs with good suspension.

A severe earthquake has rattled Marlborough.

Quote

The magnitude-5 earthquake was felt across the region on Monday at 4.10pm.

The quake was located 30 kilometres southeast of Seddon at a depth of 8 kilometres.

The quake hit on the same day that New Zealanders commemorated the fifth anniversary of the 2011 Canterbury earthquake, which killed 185 people.
