So someone writing for the mainstream media finally "discovers" this, only because he needs to get things sorted before going into retirement soon. It proves to me yet again, that most in the media are totally out of touch with what most of us regular "customers" or "clients" of Work and Income NZ (WINZ) have already known for MANY years, and are faced with every time they need to make an appointment of sorts.

There was an item on the TV news two weeks back, where they showed a Housing NZ tenant having troubles getting someone at the Corporation come and organise a repair to part of his home. The man was described as a "sickness beneficiary", dependent on a benefit that has not existed for two years, due to a radical change in the benefit system.

That revealed to me yet again, the media are middle class and upper middle class "media study" graduates who have little knowledge of the real day to day issues the ordinary mortal of us persons has to deal with. They are especially very detached from the lives of the ones at the lower end within society, and yet, they are supposed to "inform" us about what goes on in New Zealand and the world.

Perhaps it is time for the MSM staff and their bosses, to go out on a real life fact finding mission? Perhaps try to survive on one of those "lifestyle" benefits for a month or two?
