Human rights report
The Human Rights Commission recently released a report entitled Human Rights in New Zealand Today. Its prime purpose is to assess the extent to which New Zealand recognises, respects, promotes and complies with international human rights standards. The committee believes that the report tends to focus on economic, social and cultural rights with less attention given to civil and political rights. The report emphasises situations that could subjectively be called unfair but that would not necessarily constitute a breach of human rights.
