I thought this was an interesting case from alaska, particularly the way interest payments and backdating of payments were handled, could be useful to add to acc submissions?

I agree, a most interesting case. I was impressed by the thoroughness with which the WCB analysed the various causal strands of the claimant's back condition - trauma, trauma-induced degeneration, and pre-existing degeneration. There is a musculoskeletal specialist here in Dunedin who is very skilled at this sort of analysis, too.
Interesting to see how the statute in Alaska favours claimants - rebuttable presumptions of causation, etc. Nothing like that here, where the Burke case continues to cast its malign shadow over ACC jurisprudence.
Just saw an interesting Canadian case regarding the award of exemplary damages against insurers who act with bad faith - oh for the day here.
